Parks and Recreation

Howey-in-the-Hills Town Council established the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (Tree Preservation Board & Cemetry Board) to make recommendations to the council on matters pertaining to the parks, facilities and all town property based on the needs of the town.

Our goals are to:

Study and make recommendations concerning the development and use of all parks, parkways, playgrounds and other recreational facilities of the town. 
Study and recommend reasonable rules and regulations in connection with the use of all parks, parkways and other recreational facilities of the town. 
Study and recommend the establishment change and modification of reasonable rates and charges for the use of any of the town facilities for both residents and non residents.
Survey the need for improving existing recreational facilities and to recommend new and future parks, playgrounds and recreational facilities for the purpose of meeting the needs of the public for adequate and sufficient recreational opportunities.

The Parks & Recreation Board will meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Howey Town Hall located at 101 N. Palm Avenue.

PARKS

Sara Maude Mason Preserve:

Offers wonderful opportunities to sight see many different species of birds, native plants, and wildlife.  Picnic tables are also available for your use.

Blevins Patriot's Park:

Blevins Patriot's Park is dedicated to all military veterans.  The park is situated at the corner of Cypress Street and Palm Avenue/SR19.  The park was donated to the town by Woody and Leah Blevins.  There are several benches and shady spots for your restful pleasure.

Griffin Park:

Provides grills and picnic tables. We also have a covered pavilion and a children’s playground area. A dedicated boat launch with temporary parking for 6 boats and 7 mini piers to fish from.

To rent the pavilion, there is a $50.00 fee and a $50.00 refundable deposit; however if there is any damage to the pavilion the appropriate amount will be deducted from the deposit to pay for repairs.  Please complete the Pavilion Rental Permit and bring it to Town Hall.

Boat Ramp Keys cost $35.00 and are renewable January 1st with the return of your key.  If your key is lost at any time there is a $5.00 replacement fee.

Central Park/Sport Court

Enjoy the peacefulness of our fountain while sitting under the shade of the trees.  A sport court for playing half court basketball is available for your use.
