What is “Adopt a Bump-Out on Lakeshore Program”?

Adopt a Bump-Out on Lakeshore Program is a litter prevention and beautification program sponsored by the Public Services Department to attract public involvement in beautifying and picking up litter in the 7 “Bump-Outs” along Lakeshore Blvd, on the coast of Little Lake Harris. The objective is to keep the Town of Howey-in-the-Hills cleaner and greener by allowing the community to assume responsibility for sections of Bump-Outs along Lakeshore Dr.

Who can Adopt?

Any civic minded Howey-in-the-Hills individual resident or family can adopt a Bump-Out.

What are the Responsibilities of Adopting a Bump-Out?

By adopting one of the Town’s seven Bump-Outs a resident or family commits to keep a section of Town of Howey-in-the-Hills cleaner and greener. More specifically, the resident or family will:

Commit to at least once a month remove litter, trim ground plants, and pick-up leaf and frond fall.
Agree to a 1-year commitment.
All individuals participating in the program will sign Release of Liability, and if necessary, Parental Consent forms in the form approved by the Town.
The resident or family will also commit to not trimming any trees.

What are the Responsibilities of the Public Service Department?

By supporting the Adopt a Bump-Out on Lakeshore program, the Public Services Department will:

Furnish and erect a sign that indicates the bump-out and the responsible resident or family.
Manage the canopy (trim trees, etc.).
Furnish large bags for waste or trimmings.
