The Town of Howey-in-the-Hills is proud to partner with Keep Lake Beautiful (KLB) and Lake County for a Waterways Cleanup Event at Griffin Park, located on the scenic shores of Little Lake Harris. We invite residents, neighbors, and environmental stewards of all ages to join us for a morning dedicated to preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of our local waterways.
This cleanup effort is part of a countywide initiative focused on protecting the Harris Chain of Lakes. Volunteers are needed both on foot and by boat to remove litter and debris from the shoreline, boat ramps, and water. Whether you’re a boater, kayaker, or land-based volunteer, your efforts will contribute to a healthier lake ecosystem.
What to Expect:
Safety vests, gloves, bags, and grabbers will be provided.
A limited number of kayaks and canoes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Litter collected can be dropped off at any designated collection location.
Volunteer service hours will be awarded—perfect for students and civic groups!
Important Notes:
Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Please dress appropriately for outdoor work, including sunscreen, closed-toe shoes, and insect repellent.
If using one of the provided watercrafts, you will be required to sign a waiver on-site.
Pre-Registration Encouraged:
To help organizers plan, please pre-register and specify Griffin Park in Howey-in-the-Hills as your preferred location. Registration and more details are available through the Keep Lake Beautiful website.
Let’s work together to keep Howey-in-the-Hills and our beloved Harris Chain of Lakes clean and beautiful for generations to come. We look forward to seeing you there!
